Dorchester County announced on May 8 the launch of its new performance dashboard, which will allow residents to follow the county’s progress on its 2025-2030 Strategic Plan. The dashboard is designed to show updates on strategic goals through 2027 and will be refreshed quarterly as work advances.

The release of the dashboard aims to provide transparency and keep the community informed about ongoing initiatives. According to Dorchester County Council Chairman David Chinnis, “Our new Strategic Plan positions the County to look ahead and proactively plan for the future of Dorchester County. This performance dashboard provides the community with a clear and transparent way to follow the progress and see how we are advancing the initiatives that support sustainable growth, enhanced services, and improved quality of life.”

The Strategic Plan centers around six main focus areas: community health, infrastructure, growth management, public safety, service delivery, and workforce development. The county said these priorities were chosen to help define a clear direction for future operations while aligning both daily tasks and long-term projects with local needs.

Dorchester County promotes financial transparency by publishing employee salary data and financial reports. It also advances infrastructure through projects funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), according to the official website. The county fosters community welfare through programs addressing homelessness, mental health services, mosquito control efforts, and public safety measures.

In addition to these efforts, Dorchester County manages facilities such as Ashley River Park, Pine Trace Park, senior centers, libraries, and a career and technology center. The county features award-winning school districts recognized for educational excellence. It maintains relationships with special districts like Lake Marion Regional Water Agency and Summers Corner Improvement District while employing more than 1,000 full-time staff members—all according to information from the official website.
