St. George Healthcare Center, owned by THI of South Carolina, LLC as of the first quarter of 2026, is located in Dorchester County and has been under the same ownership since Aug. 1, 2017, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) records show.

This facility operates as a for-profit nursing home.

In the first quarter of 2026, the center received a CMS overall rating of 2, which is lower than the South Carolina statewide average of 3.0 for nursing homes. CMS bases these ratings on health inspection findings, staffing numbers, and resident care standards.

The data shows St. George Healthcare Center averaged 81.3 residents daily during the same period, with a total of 88 available beds. The home does not have a hospital affiliation.

During the first quarter of 2026, the center incurred two fines, amounting to $42,793, and received two penalties overall.

Dorchester County reported a total of three for-profit nursing home facilities.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the population of older adults continues to climb as the number of children declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and up grew in number by 13%, while those under 18 dropped 1.7%. The nation’s older adult group has grown substantially over the last century, jumping from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis estimates that around half of Americans in this age bracket, about 28 million, could require long-term services and support. The research also anticipates that more than one-third may ultimately need nursing home services.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
