2,531 people in their seventies in US test positive for COVID-19 during week ending August 16

There were 2,531 people in their seventies in the United States who tested positive for COVID-19 during the week ending August 16, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Out of those who provided figures, 573 individuals were hospitalized and 140 were admitted to the ICU. The gender breakdown was 48 percent male and 52 percent female.

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association stated that in the United States, children represent about 9 percent of all COVID-19 cases. The Mayo Clinic points out that children of all ages can contract COVID-19 but most don’t become as ill as adults and some show no symptoms at all.

Figures are accurate as of October 16.
