Dorchester County - SC: Dorchester County Mailing Assessment Notices

5073

Dorchester County - SC issued the following announcement on August 6.

On Wednesday, August 11, the Dorchester County Assessor’s Office will begin mailing Assessment Notices for properties that have changed in assessed value, had a transfer of ownership and/or the tax ratio changed in the past year. Note: If a property does not fall in one of these categories the property owner will not receive a notice.

To find the value of any piece of property, the Assessor's Office must know the sales price of similar properties, what it would cost to replace, cost to operate and repair, rental income the property may earn, and other factors, such as the current interest rate.

After reviewing the notice, should a property owner choose to appeal the assessed value, they must complete and return the bottom portion of the notice or submit an appeal letter with supporting documentation. The instructions for appeal are provided on the back of the notice. The deadline to appeal is Tuesday, November 30, 2021. If the property owner is not appealing the assessed value, no action is required.

Property owners are asked to contact the Dorchester County Assessor’s Office at (843) 832-0162 with any/all questions.
