Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on November 27.
Public Safety leaders in Dorchester County are developing the County’s first strategic plan for public safety.
This plan will serve as a tool to communicate the vision for public safety in Dorchester County and help direct focus, energy, and resources to issues through the identification of goals, objectives, and key results. Leaders in Dorchester County believe this process will help further advance public safety and enhance service delivery to citizens, businesses, and visitors.
Participating departments include the County Administrator’s Office, Consolidated Dispatch Center, Coroner’s Office, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Rescue, and Sheriff’s Office. The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the College of Charleston’s Riley Center for Livable Communities.
The plan is expected to be presented to Dorchester County Council in early 2022.
As part of the planning process, the County is requesting public input through a community survey. This survey will help determine the public’s level of satisfaction with various aspects of public safety as well as identify and prioritize community issues or concerns related to public safety. All responses will remain anonymous and be used only for strategic planning purposes.
The community survey will be available in English and Spanish and can be completed by visiting https://bit.ly/Dorchester_PublicSafety. The survey will close on December 8, 2021.
