New kid on the block

New Summerville Journal Scene editor makes his rounds

Fresh off the vast North Dakota prairies, Ralph Mancini has recently relocated to the Lowcountry as the new editor of The Summerville Journal Scene, along with sister newspapers, The Berkeley Independent and Goose Creek Gazette.

While the peripatetic journalist has spent the past two years braving the cold in the Bismarck area, he’s actually a New York City native who isn’t complaining about South Carolina’s subtropical heat. Previously, Mancini served as a reporter in rural Washington state, about halfway between Portland and Seattle.

The inquisitive newsman hopes to add a mix of hard-hitting stories and colorful lifestyle pieces to each of the three community papers. But, most importantly, he seeks community input in terms of what the locals want to read and learn about.

So, if you see Mancini strolling through Hutchinson Square or patiently waiting for his coffee at Cuppa Manna, make sure to let him know what’s on your mind.

In the meantime, the newcomer hopes to explore everything Downtown Summerville offers, from its outstanding restaurants to its alluring assortment of entertainment/arts venues.

In his spare time, Mancini hopes to take in all the local history in Charleston and its surrounding neighborhoods when he isn’t keeping track of the Green Bay Packers or his hometown New York Mets.
